A day for memory lane...
Telekom Malaysia will be facing a nationwide picket by the National Union of Telecommunication Employees (NUTE) this Tuesday 18 March 2008. The picket is as a mean to protest against TM’s implementation of the Employee’s Share Option Scheme (ESOS). Together with NUTE, the picket will be also joined by Sabah Union of Telecommunication Employees (SUTE) and the Union of Telecommunication Employees Sarawak (UTES) who will be staging the protest in their respective states.
According to NUTE president, Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal said the picket was due to the unfair allocation of shares where TM’s management had no clear formula for allocation. TM was also said to have failed in disclosing the information about the whole process, and did not discuss the terms and conditions of allocation with the unions. The unions are also not satisfied with the overall ‘outsourcing’ handling by the company.
“The decision made by TM shareholders during the extraordinary general meeting was well-received by the three unions. However, the three unions unequivocally and wholly reject the manner and procedure of the ESOS exercise,” said Shafie to NST.
25 pickets will be held in the Peninsular Malaysia and three in Sabah and Sarawak.
In October 2006, more than 500 members of NUTE organized a picket in front of Telekom Malaysia HQ in Kuala Lumpur in protest of their ‘insourcing’ activity of the call centers to VADS Berhad, a company majority-owned by TM. The employees were the staff of TM Call Center at the Retail Customer Contact Center (TMRCC). During the same time, about 800 employees in Sabah and Sarawak picketed in the respective states.

It was drizzling and tidak kesampai nak tengok anak-anak buah beraksi menjadi marshall di Go-Kart Show Cyberjaya. Tapi tak apa. Some info though, the kelab komuniti tak perlu ada membership. Open to all, ada permainan tak perlu bayar dan kemudahan swimming pool, dewan badminton, futsal pun ada hanya for minimun fee. And driving range..50 balls for RM3.50. Facilities excellent tempat pun ada orang jaga.

Harry Potter ( My Grandsons's favorite)
"Where are the DVDs?" Today's 4 years old are widgets' savvy! Can't blame them for my other two kaput DVD players. Harry Porter's movies are indeed exciting and yes, just let enjoy the movies and half way through they fell asleep then you take over to watch the TV. So, just can't have the DVDs lying around if you want to take control of the TV. It will be a nightmare to see the same DVD over and over again. Sometime I think I wanted to break the DVDs into pieces....hmmm..better not, just watch Harry Porter..

Be Strong. Stand-up face the world!
Changing habits is not an overnite sensation. Habits are results of consistent following a guided pattern of doing things. Procedures are laid like food served on tray. You take it in the most effective way you think best and then repeated doing the same thing over and over again to make it perfect. The more frequent it is done, the better you are and later, the guidelines can be put aside. A new culture has been developed. Things will happen naturally.
Question is, how long can you developed this process, from designing habits to creating a culture? A day? A week? A month? 10 years maximum for big corporation! (Motorola). I have got some feedbacks from people I work with before...5 years down the road I received a phone call, telling me they are getting the fruits of their investments. That the patience that you have to bear in developing cultures NOT an overnite sensation. Performance will see yo-yo because of the unlearn and relearn and you can see spotty improvement here and there. These will create internal competition among units or teams to make theirs the best! This is healthy. Over time, you will notice gradual improvements.
The trouble with people now is that you have a period of 3 years to make the difference! Waiting is no longer an exception. Hunting and fishing should be fast! Use granades use the tiger trawler's net! It will be efficient but not good in the long run. The hunters and the fishermen will surely have a bleak future. Maybe exhausted. Reasons being, competition, staying alive. Can't they feel that the ground is shaking? Some people are often blinded by what they are after.
Talking about burning platform, the same people have been sitting on hot plates ensuring deliverables are coming over and over again. Here we go again, the phrase they used to say! Well, it a job, anyway, some people come and go but others are here to stay! The veterans have seen the changed of the guards and how those left behind are cleaning the shits they have left behind! No need to mention here, just ask the veterans!
No matter what, you have got to believe in what you are doing. Let's try to understand how some tasks are to be delivered. The right culture will give the desired numbers, consistently and rising as processes matures. Rangers and infantry have the same vision but they mission and tasks differs.
So change agents, stand strong and face the world, you know your craft well and hope that sometime and somewhere down the road you might be receiving a phone call but definitely not tomorrow!

The Walls have Ears!!
Train your ears to listen and you get much out of it. Commuting in trains can furnished you with lots of information but some are just noises. What are the jobs available? Who and who and where? Wow..and what happening with that company or department? Just close your eyes and pretend you are asleep and have your mind wondering. It is tiring though, because most does not affect you. Some might make you tickle then you need to control your giggle by turning away your face toward the window if you are sitting next to it or just hold your bag and bowed. The worst or most exciting talks you can capture is on the way back after work. Information will flow, pleanty of them, but just wondering if you are multilangual, imagine the data you will be compiling! Maybe some details next time.

Come Election Same Story...
Everyone pointing fingers at each other. The SPR and the political parties (both pro and oppo) taichi here and taichi there. This is the 5th election for me and same thing also I hear, never resolved. Okaylah we take every year 100 years old people died since I first took my vote 25 years ago; so 100 x 25 = 2,500. Then, 8,666-2,500= 7,166 people have come to the age of 100 since then making it a record for us to have 285 people reaching 100 years old every year for the last 25 years! What a record!
The records might not be accurate but, but at least you make some justification why the records are wrong rather than making simple analogy of what may have happened. This is no monkey business. The next election the same issue will arise and the same answer will echo.
